Liberation Programs is looking for people to join our team in the role of Emergency Overdose Responder as we launch an exciting new multidisciplinary, community-based opioid response effort in Fairfield county.

Job Purpose / Function:

The Emergency Overdose Responder position is funded by a Federal Bureau of Justice COSSAP (Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant and Substance Abuse Site-based program) Grant - and will be limited to the term of this three-year funding as a result.

The program is partnering to serve vulnerable adults and their families struggling with SUD in Bridgeport, Greenwich and Stamford. Responders will work closely with community agencies and law enforcement to increase connections to care. Emergency Overdose Responders will attend the scene of an overdose (or connect with the individual within 24 hours of an overdose)., provide outreach, harm reduction supplies and education, and provide a bridge to other services and supports.


Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 4:00pm-12:30am


Major Duties and Responsibilities;

  1. Provide support through our Wellness Van and community outreach.
  2. Provide Naloxone training in addition to other harm reduction education.
  3. Provide harm reduction supplies.
  4. Work closely with Clinical/Medical staff at Liberation Programs and partnering agencies.
  5. Facilitate timely referrals and placements to ongoing treatment/recovery support providers.
  6. Connect individuals with substance use to a larger community of care.
  7. Educate and assist family members as requested.
  8. Travel required.
  9. Report writing, record keeping as required by DPH and DMHAS, as well as compliance with CARF standards

Skills / Experience Required;

  • Must have a minimum of working for one year with people who use SA/MH or the equivalent lived experience.
  • Experience and comfort with harm reduction services, including syringe exchange.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Delivers services respectfully and ensures all participants are treated with dignity and feel supported.
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain appropriate boundaries.
  • Cross-cultural skills and experience with diverse populations.
  • Capability of building an effective peer relationship.
  • Understanding and experience with the addiction recovery process, and medication-assisted treatment and practices.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, insurance and be comfortable driving large van.
  • Familiarity with local support services, resources and recovery community preferred.
  • Recovery Coach Professional (RCP) designation or in process to earn designation preferred.
